The Wine Thread.
by Open mind inif you enjoy a glass of vino now and then, tell us what you like and how your tastes got to where they are now.
wine snobs & non-snobs alike welcome!.
my intro to the world of wine was my jw parents buying a huge screw-top bottle of paul masson or gallo red or white, having half a glass, and sticking it out on the back porch thinking that wine stayed good like that.

Côtes du Rhône,
and Bordeaux (good for arteries).
For both, 2009 was a good vintage, also 2005 and 2003. The problem is that 2003 is now getting a bit too old for Cotes du Rhône, so I have to drink my reserve off.

Not to meddle unduly in american affairs, but don't you expect from an intelligent president to think twice before engaging his country in a new war when there are already two under way ?

he stepped down to help his family. And is also begging me stay in marriage
Itsc&etc , if your husband is coming to his sense, and if you still have a feeling for him, you should grab this chance to save your marriage, and not let it known that you allowed this organization to ruin your family, on top of all the rest of it. The WTS is not worth a wrecked marriage, controlling your own life by, hopefully, salvaging your couple is the best proof of regained freedom that you can produce. Just an opinion.

Sorry to hear this sad news, I missed it too. We had an exchange once on this site, he seemed to be very well learned in the Bible, with his own particular approach, no wonder he couldn't be a JW any longer. RIP, Joseph, sincere condolences to his family.

by Witness 007 ini rang a sister who i haven't spoken to for years who said "she couldn't talk since she was cooking for the c.o and his wife who have special dietary needs......was this like a royal visits at your cong and whats with the "we can't eat flour, or yeast" or blah blah blah!

We never applied for, and were never asked for, too much on the fringe, except when we were living oversea, where we accomodated CO and wife, quite decent, friendly and open people (as much as a CO couple can be), for a whole week. Not a royal visit, rather an opportunity to chat about whether the collapse of the USSR (at the time) was that of the king of the north. I also remember having raised with him the incoherence where the paradise (red) book read that obviously the world belonged to Satan, for the reason that he was telling it so to Jesus. How could that be the reason, I said, since Satan is the father of the lie ?

Made up field service experience at yesterday's Public Talk
by RULES & REGULATIONS inremember the made up stories of witnesses in djibouti, africa where they had to walk 2 days in alligator infested waters with no shoes in the blazing sun to attend the meetings?
they made it to the meetings in these terrible conditions.. talk about made up stories!
here is a field service experience that was told at yesterday's public talk which would fall into the made up stories!.

I find it very difficult, if not impossible, to believe that preaching experiences are outright lies. Most of us did belong to this organization where the values were that we must tell the truth. I believe that an afabulator would be quickly spotted, and his lies certainly not endorsed by his hierarchy, even less so in an assembly. Otherwise, we should believe that the whole line of responsible men in the organization are involved in the lying process, from bottom to top, which is just not plausible. There MUST be somewhere on the ladder an honest CO or DO (we all know shat some of them are) to say Stop this nonsense or this lie.

Why do the JWs have such an aversion to philosophy?
by Darth Eowyn ini mean, they seem to avoid it like the plague.
i know people will say that they only need the bible to guide them in life...etc...but i contend that you cannot simply read the bible by yourself; at least without knowing where the philosophical principles contained within the bible come from.
is this aversion of confusing philosophy with faith way over the head of most jws?

Because they have been taught from their young age that to the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh.

Fat Bastard ? I bet it's bottled for the sole american market, never heard of it overhere.
I also feel that somehow wine is like a medicine but I experience almost every day that having it before going to bed causes awakening after a couple of sleep hours, like the above link points it out.
